My Wilderness

On the left side is the Upper East Branch of the Pemigewasset River near Stillwater. When I was a freshmen in college, I backpacked here alone during rutting season for two days, and was almost killed by a large bull moose.

The photo below, as foggy as it is, shows the bull moose after the first charge he made.

While I was in college I started writing for magazines such as Backpacker and AMC Outdoors, which led to eventually publishing a book called My Wilderness. The book describes in detail how I got into the outdoors and the path that led to getting into some very strange adventures that just do not happen to most people.

From almost being trampled by a rutting bull Moose, to being lost above treeline in a snowstorm, it shows many of the mistakes I have made along the way, but also celebrates my love for the White Mountains.
